The Coaching Culture
For coaching to be effective you need a coaching culture. Here are some characteristics:
- People welcome constructive and positive feedback
- Staff are pro-active in seeking development opportunities
- Coaching is seen as the joint responsibility of line managers and their staff
- Effective coaching models are embraced
- Coaching skills are developed in all levels of staff
- Coaching is seen as an opportunity (rather than negatively)
- The organisation has a continuous improvement and learning approach
- Coaching is seen as adding value rather than a cost
