The tribunal’s decision
Once the tribunal is satisfied that they’ve heard all the evidence, their decision is usually announced at the end of the case or a few days later. In some complex cases the decision can take weeks or even months.
Both sides receive a written decision, setting out the reasons behind the decision. Sometimes this will be in summary, so if there is an appeal ask for a full copy of the reasons.
If you’re unhappy with the decision, you can ask the tribunal to review the case. This must be done within 14 days of the decision. Any appeals go to the Employment Appeal Tribunal must be made within six weeks and be based on a point of law. They rarely succeed.
The next Tribunal article focuses on the amounts awarded by tribunal.
